What is your role at CCGrass?

My role at CCGrass is the UK Business Development Manager, which is to focus on new business around the UK. I offer advice to clients and clubs on the most effective playing surfaces. Managing client relationships is also an integral aspect of the role.

What did you do before working for CCGrass?

I was fortunate enough to play professional football for 19 years. I left school at 16 to live and play for AJ Auxerre in France before joining Leeds United FC, in the very first season of The Premier League

Following retirement from football in 2009, I have always been connected to the football industry in various ways, including coaching, as a UEFA B qualified coach.

What made you decide to enter into the artificial grass industry?

During a previous role, representing an indoor air dome company, I crossed paths with the artificial grass industry a lot. All of the air domes required artificial grass in them, which allowed me to gain some insight into the requirements, and specifications that are considered.

How has your career history affected your opinion on artificial grass?

As a teenager, I had experience of playing regularly on the very first artificial grass pitches that were introduced into the UK football industry.

I often trained and played on the pitch at Preston North End FC, I also played at Luton Town FC and Oldham Athletic FC where these pitches were first laid.

I always enjoyed playing on artificial grass pitches because they played very fast and my ball control capabilities gave me an edge at the time.

Therefore, my opinions have always been positive. The technological advances in grass surfaces have evolved significantly since then so I have always enjoyed playing on them, even now as an occasional recreational 5-a-side player.
